BRC 2026 Race Series Event 4 – Staggered Parkrun – Race Report

Event 4 of the BRC Race Series brought something a little different, as 20 runners took on a staggered 5K on the Ormeau parkrun course. With start times based on there fastest parkrun performances within last 3 months, it then set the scene for an exciting chase from start to finish.

A big thank you to everyone who submitted times in advance—particularly as estimating form isn’t always easy, especially for those who don’t run parkrun regularly. That uncertainty only added to the excitement on the night!

Conditions were far from calm with the start line being freezing and apparently a noticeable wind around the course though some didnt’t notice while marshalling as being kept toasty wearing the BRC club hat and a set of gloves to keep, but so thankful the rain stayed away and didn’t dampen spirits.

A huge thanks must go to Aaron, Paul and Maureen, whose help and volunteering ensured the event ran smoothly and was such a success and Davy for providing the club members list and start timings and Fiona for providing tokens which helped greatly at the end. Appreciation for Aaron to bring the unofficial club small tent for club members to put there stuff into but boy was it fun trying to setup with the wind not playing ball. Thankfully the club big tub of goodies and accessories tea/coffee/milk/biscuits/sweets and the hot water container to keep it down or it have flown away.

The staggered format delivered an interesting start and position switching during the event with some having park user obstacles to deal with taking up full width of the path but there was a thrilling finish, with positions changing right to the line. So great to see everyone out running tonight and some getting to do the parkrun course for the first time and those new to the club out there running and hopefully enjoying the night…

Overall, it was a fantastic evening of racing, with a great turnout and plenty of competitive spirit throughout. Well done to everyone who took part—another brilliant night in the BRC Race Series! 💪🏃‍♂️

Thank you to everyone helping out in the background/volunteering and participants 😄
