BRC Parkrun Visit (Race Series 2023 Event 4)

Craigavon was the destination for the annual BRC parkrun tourism outing this morning with 25 members making the short trip to the land of roundabouts and multiple leisure centres(!). Looking at the results the vast vast majority of BRCers finished either with a ‘First Timer’ or even more impressively a ‘PB’ beside their name on what was a perfect morning for running.

BRC at Craigavon

Craigavon parkrun takes place on a one lap circuit of the lake, it is a very pleasant run with a few hills thrown in for good measure. It’s definitely not a flat course but there are downhills for all the ups. Thankfully most of our members got there in plenty of time to allow for a proper warm up (we are a serious running outfit after all) and the recent Tuesday night speed sessions showed their worth with some fabulous times. Special mention to Nicky and Tony who both smashed through the19 minute milestone and in fact finished closer to 18! Tommy and Kyle notched an all time parkrun PB and there were Craigavon PBs for Grainne, Amanda, Paul and hometown girl Emma. Tom was close to the 20 minute mark, quite a feat considering he was running with a buggy! Young Oisin must have been offering words of encouragement on the way round.

Maureen’s name does not feature in the results and she missed the post run pic, but be assured she was there. Marie-Louise notched her 50th parkrun in all and she provided plenty of treats to accompany the coffee which was organised by Fiona. MLC’s Mum gets special mention as the baker of the lovely looking cake!

This was a Race Series event and the results were based on age grade performance. Liz was way-out in the lead with 92% age grade, Jill gets 49 points with 83.3% and Brendan, who just about made the start line on time, finished marginally ahead of Nicky and Tony in age grade terms to grab 48 points.

Thanks to the Race Series sub committee for arranging this morning’s gathering. With the lovely weather and the great times everyone got, and the coffee treats and chat afterwards it was a  BRC event to remember. Well done everyone.

Next up on our race series is the Open Track night which will take place on Thursday 15th June.
