BRC Race Series 2023 Dundrum

There is nothing humdrum about the Dundrum GR8 annual race and it is certainly one of the most popular events in the BRC calendar. By now we have a fixed formula involving a) a bus; b) a base in Aaron and Carol’s home; c) the race now with the added option of a 3.5 miler; d) drinks in the Dundrum Inn – well an athlete has to rehydrate, right?? and e) lunch in the Maghera Inn. The drinks part does spill over from d into e!

There were 26 runners from the club who took part and our athletes were to the fore both in both distances. The general consensus was that the beach part of the race this year was easier than last year (really, it could not have been any worse!). As usual the course includes road, trail, beach and boardwalk. That finish line is a welcome sight, and so too is the line of tables offering fabulous post race refreshments. Nicky finished in 10th position overall and we had a number of runners who were in the top 3 in their age grade.

Dundrum GR8 is so well organised, there are plenty of marshals en route and even a band playing on the home straight. Having the Hill House available as a base for number collection, getting changed and even showered afterwards is such a bonus and as ever we are very grateful to Aaron and Carol.

There are plenty of pictures from the event, both from club members and on the GR8 Facebook page As well as sorting out the various financial transactions on the day, Fabrice was snapping away in the pub and those pictures are on the club’s Facebook page. Not content with running 8.4 hard miles on the race our esteemed Treasurer ran home from the bus stop – that’s what marathon training will do to a runner!!

Jill once again topped the age grade chart and bagged the 50 points; Brendan claimed 49 and Nicky 48.

The full results and overall Race Series table are now on our race series results page.
