BRC Race Series 2023 Queens 5K

The second of our race series was on Wednesday 23rd with quite the turnout from the club. Oh and just the matter of a few PB’s well.

Getting Ready to go

This is a regular event and always well attended. This year was no differnet with 27 members taking part. What looked like it might be a washout ended up in near perfect condidtions for our runners. This was evident in the results with some fantastic times, especially considering what some people have been up to. For example, most members will be aware of Áine running a marathon PB in Barcelona on the Sunday. How did she celebreate it? By running a PB 4 days later. Kyle recently undertook some warm weather training in Australia and only returned last week. Jetlag – no problem, coming in as he did under 20mins for a PB. Callum, well as a new father, he is obviously sleep deprived and busy with the baby. None of which was on show, as he ran a quite amazing 17:23.

Points wise, well of course Liz comes out on top. With 50 points from Queens, she has a clean sweep in the first 2 events and sitting pretty on 100 points. Ciarán earned 49 points for his first race of the series. Some of the usual suspects are appearing near the top end, but keep an eye on Áine. 2 races in, she is sitting on 90 points sandwiched between Gráinne, Callum and Jill. So far 13 people have taken part in both races, with 28 taking part in at least one. Next up is the “How far in an hour?” run. This is the first non age-graded event of the year so expect some good chances of points being earned and some movement at the top. We know how far Áine can run in 3:35. What can she do in 60 mins? Details are still be ironed out on the dates, so please keep an eye out on the member Facebook page as well as updates on whatsapp and other socials…

A Happy bunch just completed the 5K
