BRC Race Series 2023 – Seeley Cup

So the race series officially concluded on Sat 2nd Dec with the usual finale at the Seeley Cup. This year though with it selling out very quickly unfortunately some of our members missed out however with one or two cancellations we managed to have 11 runners taking part and results would be of little influence on the overall race series standings so was thankfully less of a headache for our race series committee team.

Some Members getting ready

Back to the race itself and history was made by Brendan turning up early for the start of the race. There was no gazebo and the popup tent returned for bag storage and Paul and Aaron with their coffees watched from their usual spot and awaited the runners. Then Brendan appeared beside them! Apparently his number went AWOL so much for turning up early!

Aine

Highlights from the race include Aine in as our first runner in with an amazing PB smashing through the 40 minute barrier followed next by Vernon who secured his 3rd place overall in the race series. Well done to Donna and Paul in getting 10K Pbs with Donna finishing 4th in the overall series. Also to the rest of our runners i.e. Hannah (our newest member taking part and already making a positive impact), Mark R (under the weather but still having a good time) the ever smiling Jane, JP (who slipped into the top 5 in the overall series), Darragh and Daniel.

Brendan although missing out today did secure 2nd place overall in the race series and in doing so was also our top male finisher so big congratulations to Brendan.

Last but definitely by no means least our overall winner Jill signing off today with another win. Out of her 8 best events she managed to win five and finish 2nd in the other three I think we can safely say she has proved to be a worthy winner and big massive congratulations to Jill. Also quick mention to Jill and Donna who took part in all 11 events.

Thanks to those who turned up from the club to support our runners today. Also a first for the club today where Nicky broadcasted a live feed on X (Twitter) from the event and people have commented positively on this so maybe we’ll do some more. Aaron and Fabrice also took some pics and these can be seen on our various social media platforms. You can see all the results from our race series on the BRC Race Series Results page.

So that’s all from this year thanks to our BRC Race Committee team for bring it all together and to everyone who took part in the 11 events and hopefully we’ll see you all again in 2024.

Oh wait Brendan apparently NI Athletics have been in touch they have your number ready….
