So you may have heard of the Netflix series, Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Well there is a sort of local sequel, Its Always Cold in Mallusk, and so it came to pass in the latest Belfast Running Club Race Series event last Sunday 13 January as large numbers of members took part in the Mallusk Harriers Mathieson Shield and Cup event.
The course itself was just short of 2k in length and contained a couple of minor hills and two kind of more serious hills which got more serious with each lap and for the ladies and vet mens (Des Reid in our case) that meant 3 laps while the men went round 4 times.
;l aThere was a very strong wind at the course also which at various points was enough to sap the legs, drop the spirits and make you wonder why you didn’t stay home in front of the fire.
However as usual the level of BRC support around the course lifted spirits and naturally the event was one which was enjoyed only after it had been endured.
Orlaith Kirk was the first woman home, and in the mens race David Hynes breasted the tape first for BRC. Des was our only entrant in the veteran male category. Full results can be found here https://athleticsni.org/Results
