There were 22 BRCers taking part and at least that many dotted around the course, cheering on their club mates to make for a great BRC event. The course took in much of Victoria Park which is familiar to many club runners and as such was a mix of road, trail and grass. The course was almost perfectly flat and that was reflected in some very impressive times from the BRC gang. First male home was Ciaran Toner in 31;21 and Dearbhla Cox was first female athlete across the line in 32;46. There may well have been a number of 5 mile PBs among the results, especially with this being a somewhat unusual or uncommon distance to race. Well done all and thanks to all club members who came out to support. Full results are available here http://www.championchipireland.com/results/index.php.
Lauren took some cracking photos which can be seen on the club Facebook and with Alan out on the course, there will be more to follow.
We can’t post a Race Series report without mentioning the unfortunate injury to club legend Liz Robinson who had been in imperious form before falling during the last Race Series event, the Giants Trail Race. Liz was there tonight, in her ‘moon boot’ to protect and heal a fractured ankle, supporting her clubmates. That was great to see.
As the Race Series heads towards the home straight it is encouraging to see so many runners improving their times, getting fitter and stronger with each outing. Lets all keep up the great work. The Race Series standings will be “hinted at” in the coming days, it is VERY tight at the top!
Thanks to the organisers of tonight’s race, it went off perfectly in magnificent surroundings. We will be back next year to CS Lewis Square.
And who doesn’t love a Friday night race?? Everyone who took part tonight can tomorrow enjoy a Lie-in, a Stitch and a Carbload.
