BRC Race Series 2024 – Storming the Castle

18th August 2024

Getting ready to storm the castle

Everyone has their own race day preparations. Davy and Mark take gels before the race, Rowena needs the toilet and David misses the group photo. But the most unusual of these is Fabrice, who has been known to have pints the night before a marathon and on this particularly hot day chose to cycle the 25km to a race and 25km back.

After complimenting each other’s choice of tops (the BRC kit) our intrepid explorers joined the masses at the start line. We wondered why the pacers huddled together at the start and set out together and to be honest, many speculated at the end that they were not entirely accurate and not to be relied upon.

The start was a busy affair which eased quickly, winding through parks and an underpass onto the seafront. The race was very well supported throughout but with little shade it became quite the slog. Rowena tried to run in Donna’s tailwind and take photos of the new kit in action beside the castle. Water was provided on the out and back with volunteers offering to throw some over you if you wanted. The finish line with the towering Norman castle behind was a welcome and impressive view.

David just snuck in under 40 minutes while everyone else mopped up race series points like they were going out of fashion. Colin trains and peaks for these races and Carrickfergus was no different. This race really delivered and could become an annual fixture on the race series calendar. Fabrice has not been seen since his sweltry duathlon.
