BRC Track Day 2025

Last Sunday we welcome a great crowd to Mary Peters Track for our Annual Track Day and race series Mile event. Along with our regular members, we had several family groups join us also, there was even a rumour of a 100m buggy race at one point.

The track day is a fun social event but also allows new members to get a fell for the track environment and realise it’s not scary at all and actually a brilliant place to do a bit of speedwork along with your other weekly training. We had 5 events on the day, both track and field were covered.

Avoiding the rain showers, we started with the 100m dash. Not quite sure where the start line was, I don’t think our times will qualify for the Olympics, but fun all the same. On to the field events and to avoid injury, the javelin was replaced with the dog toy throw and the hammer was replaced by the welly wang. Everyone had 2 goes at each to get their best distance.

The mile race was well contested with Ciaran putting in a blistering time of 5.01, closely followed by Chris, both Simons, Mark and Jill. All the times and age grades were worked out and will be on the website along with the current race series leaderboard.

As the day went on, many haribo sweets were handed out by Fiona to keep the kids and adults going. We finished up the event with our 4x400m relay. Three teams of 4 runners took to the start line and in a really well matched race, there were only a few seconds between all the teams at the finish line. Very exciting end to the day.

The results of the mile race and race series standings can be found on the race series results page.
Also coming soon will be video footage from the event and Davy Hanna has also uploaded some great photos onto our members Facebook page.
